Kenya 🇰🇪 Teachers Are The Most Well Paid In East Africa

ANALYSIS By Dorris Otieno Kenyan teachers are not only the best paid in East Africa, but also earn almost 12 times more than the country's average pay, a comparative study by Nation Newsplex and the Institute of Economic Affairs reveals. Even as teachers go on strike for the 12th time since their first industrial action in 1962, the analysis, which compares teachers' salaries in Kenya with those of their peers in select African countries , also finds that the lowest-paid teacher in Kenya earns more than the highest-paid teacher in Uganda. Uganda and South Africa were chosen as countries against which to compare wages of teachers because they have the most up-to-date data against which the comparison could be made. While Tanzania was not included in the comparison because only average pay for the year 2011 was available, even its figures indicated that Kenyan teachers earn more than their Tanzanian counterparts. AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK
 
Current agriculture accounts for 50% of Tanzanians GDP and about 80% of the entire workforce. The governments aim is to encourage commercialization of agriculture procedures in this respect. Independent start-up companies processing food produce and drinks, in glass bottles, tins and plastic packaging are all needed.
Processing plants that can handle fresh food produce and establish new national distribution networks and be made aware of the export potential are to be encouraged with tax incentives .


  CATTLE, DAIRY AND POULTRY FARMING

 Tanzania has 21.3 million large cattle, the largest herds in Africa. To meet current demands investment, technical skills and capital is needed to establish more ranches.
There is 100.000ha of prime ranch land that has been set aside for investors consideration.



The blue print plan for investment and the proposals will be promoted at the Conference.
Encouraging investors to provide slaughter house facilities, professional butchery's that can portioned control produce for the hotel industry is important both for national consumption and cross border trade. 


There is a need for canning and food processing companies and their selling agents to build brand names and establish an export market to our African neighbors: this will attract tax breaks to encourage exports. Businesses involved in producing dried milk and processed milk products will all be encouraged.



 FISH FARMING

Investors are encouraged in the production of semi-intensive and intensive aquaculture.


They will want to co-operate with the established National Aquaculture Development Center NADC in developing their farms. Incoming companies will made aware of the potential national and cross border trade opportunities that are available.



 TOURISM



With iconic wildlife and National Parks, the beautiful Indian Ocean, Tanzania is in a unique position to capitalize on a buoyant tourist industry.
Zanzibar the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, Mount Kilimanjaro and other World Heritage sites create a formidable marketing package for any tour operator.
Attracting hoteliers, resort operators and franchise companies as investors is a priority.


 ENGINEERING AND BUILDING MATERIALS

Industrialists involved in the construction industries supplying materials used in house building and industrial structures. Engineering companies familiar with sheet metal work cabinet makers, installers of commercial chillers and frozen cabinets, processing machinery. Furniture manufacturers, Solar energy providers are all welcome to the conference.  FORESTRY



Tanzania has some of the largest forests in Africa conservation and sustainable management is a government policy. Company's with experience of administrating large forest areas to commercially produce timber and timber products are welcome visitors to the conference. 


SCIENCE PARKS AND TECHNOLOGY CENTERS



The introduction and innovation between Foundations and Universities is a priority.
The government will look positively at partnerships in research and design technology laboratories.



BANKERS

Securing finance for capital investment projects and major buildings requires banks co-operation to satisfy their clients demands. An important key elements is having local knowledge and good banking advice.



BUSINESS POTENTIAL AND EXPORTING


The government encourages Public and Private Partnerships as land is available for leased or purchase from the land registry.
Tanzania has good relations with Uganda and Kenya to the north, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia and Zaire to the west. Malawi, Mozamubique are to the south. The Indian Ocean is to the east.




 Tanzania already has a competitive advantage its people, its climate, its stable government.
